Spring 2018 at the Theatre

Spring into our next Theatre season!

As we head into 2018 it’s time for us to start looking at the upcoming season for Spring. With 14 shows running from February to May and a line-up of famous comedians, live music, drama, children’s classics and new productions from old favourites, this fourth season at Broadway Theatre cements the venue as a leading attraction within the area.

We kick off in February with a thrilling adaptation of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde. This classic tale immerses you in the fog-bound streets where love, betrayal and murder lurk at every chilling twist and turn! A literary classic currently on the English syllabus at senior schools, this gripping and thought-provoking show is unmissable. SAT 3 FEB, 7.30pm.

Two shows are back by popular demand. Pop Up Opera are returning to Spirella Ballroom after two sell out years. The production tells the tale of brother and sister Hansel and Gretel as they’re drawn into the dangerous world of the forest. Horrible Histories is also back, this time featuring MORE of your favourite characters from our barmy past! Horrible Histories is already selling fast – so be sure to book your seats quickly.

We could all do with a laugh, so we have three top comedians this season with Griff Rhys Jones’ new show Where Am I? SAT 3 MAR, 7.30pm; national treasure Pam Ayres with her charming understated manner on THU 19 APR, 7.30pm; and to top it all off on SAT 21 APR, 7.30pm, the freewheeling and sharp-shooting Rich Hall.

Remember your school days fondly or preferring to forget? Either way, Blackeyed Theatre’s highly-acclaimed production Teechers, about life at a struggling academy, has plenty to say about education for the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’. Expect superb ensemble performances, an up-to-date soundtrack, unforgettable characters and razor-sharp comedy. WED 14 MAR, 7.30pm

On THU 26 APR Candoco Dance Company present a new double bill of dramatic and powerful choreography. This stunning company of disabled and non-disabled dancers bring a visually arresting performance and invites audiences to consider contemporary dance in bold new ways. Those of you who enjoyed the Jive Aces will love the powerhouse vocals of retro King Si Cranstoun and his blend of Doo Wop, Rock n’ Roll and funky Rhythm & Blues. Catch Si Twisting the Night Away on SUN 29 APR, 7pm.

Families are particularly well served this spring with Michael Morpurgo’s I Believe in Unicorns, performed by returning story-teller Danyah Miller.  Immersive Theatre are thrilled to bring their wildest show yet, a brand new musical adaptation of family favourite The Jungle Book. Another returning favourite from last year is James Mayhew and Realm of Music with Shakespeare Brought to Life.

Finally at the end of this packed out season we will be hosting our first production at Broadway Studio with 2Magpies Theatre. Developed alongside human rights organisations, Last Resort presents an alternative future for Guantanamo Bay. The waterboarding has stopped, the noise has been turned down and the military base has been reclaimed as a holiday destination. The audience are the holidaymakers: sit in a deckchair, enjoy a rum cocktail on arrival and feel the sand between your toes. FRI 25 MAY, 7pm & 9pm.

A huge thanks to all of you that have supported the Theatre in its first year and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
