The film tells the story of Philip Vincent, whose motorcycles set records around the world - but who ended his days penniless in council housing in West London.
Some 40 years after his death in 1979, a record-setting Vincent reached over $1 million at auction – making it the most expensive motorcycle ever sold.
As well as narration by Ewan McGregor, Vincent owner Jay Leno, artist, bassist and motorcyclist Paul Simonon (The Clash etc) and legendary racer, John Surtees all feature extensively.
The documentary includes a rich archive of unearthed family film, some on full 16mm colour. This really evokes a sense of time and place - from the UK in the 1930s, through to Europe and the USA in the 1940s and 50s.
As do unheard audio recordings of Vincent talking in the early 1970s.
Friends and colleagues paint an intimate portrait of Philip Vincent - a ‘flawed genius’ according to those who knew him.
‘Speed is Expensive’ is a fully independent British documentary.
Includes a Live Q&A with David Lancaster (Grandson of Phillip[ Vincent-Day)
