The link between art and literature is crucial to an understanding of much of the art of the past. For centuries, the closer art was to literature, the greater the art. There were also practical reasons for creating ‘visible poetry’, thus raising the status of artist above that of a mere craftsman. In her lecture, Val will reference artists including Blake, Turner, Bosch, Burne-Jones, Delacroix, Poussin, Rossetti and Millais.
Val Woodgate lectures at Tate Britain and Tate Modern, the National Trust, U3A, City of London libraries (Barbican and Guildhall) as well as other organisations. Val was a Tate Guide for many years and a member of the Teaching Team at Dulwich Picture Gallery.
