Ford Maddox Brown: The Pre-Raphaelite Half-Brother

Because he had ‘no faith in coteries’ Brown refused to join the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood but nevertheless was responsible for some of the most powerful paintings of the period such as Work (1852-65), The Last of England (1852- 55) and the haunting ‘Take Your Son, Sir!’ (1851) This lecture looks at the life and work of this influential artist and his family relationships and his relationship with the P.R.B.
