Julia’s lecture guides us through the process of conserving paintings, before focusing on two individual altarpieces from the Early Northern Renaissance which were conserved recently in her conservation studios in Chiswick. The lecture takes us into a background history of the period, the wealth in Flanders, and of other artists working at the same time, both in Italy and the Low Countries. It also provides insight into the unexpectedly early use of perspective, and by a process of comparison and contrast, shows how conclusions are reached as to the likely painters of these charming works. Julia Korner is a specialist and lecturer in fine art conservation and the restoration of paintings, sculptures and frames. She is also a valuer, passionate collector, advisor and curator of paintings and works of art.
Julia trained in art history and conservation before working at Christie's for 20 years as a paintings’ specialist, building extensive knowledge of Old Masters and of British, European and American paintings from the 1700s onwards. In addition to her role as a lecturer for The Arts Society, Julia also lectures for Sotheby’s Institute, Christie’s and Fine Art Societies.
